"Sur la plage" Original drawing (pencil & gouache) on paper 170x210mm - by Louis Fernàndez (Oviedo, 1900 - Paris, 1973) Spanish painter. Settled in Paris since 1924, he participated in the experiences of the avant-garde and combined with great originality elements of primitive art, expressionism and metaphysical abstraction. In 1909 he moved to Barcelona, where he entered as an apprentice in the workshop of José Mongrell and, at the same time, studied at the School of Fine Arts. Later he devoted himself to teaching, giving classes in drawing, painting and decorative arts in a private center in Barcelona. He then went to Madrid, where he worked at the Museum of Industrial Arts. In 1924 he settled permanently in Paris, where he had the opportunity to discover the work of Le Corbusier and Amédée Ozenfant, surrealism and the work of cubists such as Picasso, with whom he maintained a close friendship and collaborated in the creation of the curtain for the play Le 14 juillet, by Romain Rolland. These avant-garde movements influenced the evolution of his work, his painting would synthesize them in a figuration of geometric and constructivist features. A very special and significant drawing in the surrealist style, the influence of Picasso (his friend) is very noticeable. It is a very rare piece, signed by the artist and titled on the back of the drawing. In very good condition
